It took only 11 minutes for the 250 available places on the Aldeias do Xisto Geo Tour 2019 to be filled, making it one of the most sought-after mountain biking events in Portugal. The seventh edition of the race, organised by BTT Gardunha, is scheduled for 23 and 24 February, 2019.
The enormously beautiful mountains and valleys, trails and rural roads found between Fundão and Pampilhosa da Serra serve as the backdrop for the seventh edition of this mountain biking competition. Over the two days, participants will cover 170 kilometres, with 4000 metres of accumulated ascent.
The race is run in two stages, each of them around 85km including 2000 uphill metres. The first stage, to take place on the 23rd, will depart from Fundão towards Pampilhosa da Serra. The next day, the cyclists return to their starting point.
The Geo Tour visits four parishes that are part of the Aldeias do Xisto network - Barroca, Janeiro de Cima, Janeiro de Baixo, and Vidual/Fajão - and crosses with the Great Zêzere Route.
Cabeço do Pião, Armadouro, Barco, Brejo de Cima, Brejo de Baixo, Dornelas do Zêzere, Enxabarda, Ourondo, Meãs, Malhou, Malhada do Rei, Peso, Pesinho, Praçais, S. Jorge da Beira, Souto da Casa, or Silvares are just a few of the race’s passing points.
Due to the large volume of applications, the BTT Gardunha mountain biking competition will open a second phase of registrations on a date to be announced soon. Although there is a limited number of places, this does represent a new opportunity for the many people interested in the event.
