In the Aldeias do Xisto of the municipality of Góis, Shrove Tuesday was celebrated in a simple manner. Old clothes and objects were used to conceal the face. The most creative and ingenious people wore a mask made from cork, the brand image of the event that still takes place today. Re-established by Lousitânea, this tradition happens every year at Carnival time and enlivens the streets of the Aldeias do Xisto of Aigra Nova, Aigra Velha and Pena and the neighbouring villages of Cerdeira, Esporão and Ponte de Sótão.
Given the current scenario, this year, Shrove Tuesday will be celebrated online, on 14 February, with various initiatives planned:
- Virtual exhibition “15 years - 15 photos”;
- Humorous rhymes challenge;
- Giveaway with a raffle of a ham and a codfish;
- Campaign profile picture #entrudoemcasa;
- Presentation of the initiative on Radio Clube de Arganil, at 11.15am on 12 February;
- Participation of the revellers in the Domingão programme, broadcast by SIC on Sunday afternoons;
- Online availability of the documentary The Cork Mask, A Máscara de Cortiça, by Tiago Cerveira;
- Short comedy “A day in the life of a reveller”;
