Over the decade of its life, 45 concerts, seven artistic residencies and four albums, XJazz - Encontros do Jazz in Aldeias do Xisto has come to be one of the most important musical events of the year. Throughout these events, several “big names" in world jazz have visited and played in the Aldeias do Xisto, such as Evan Parker, Hamid Drake, William Parker, Joëlle Léandre and Paolo Angeli. This year brings us the renowned guitarist Bill Frisell in a trio, accompanied by Thomas Morgan on double bass and Rudy Royston on drums. The musicians will perform at the Lavandeira Fluvial Park, in Janeiro de Cima, on 17 July.
In order to comply with the rules of the Directorate General of Health, seating capacity for the concert is limited to 200. Admission is free for everyone who booked accommodation using Bookinxisto from 16 to 18 July 2021 (minimum 2 nights). Bill Frisell's career as a guitarist and composer has a solid foundation, evident by his discography, among the richest in contemporary jazz and spanning four decades. Now, Frisell brings us his latest project, titled Valentine. Published by Blue Note Records, this is his first album recorded alongside bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston. The songs that will be played on the Janeiro de Cima river beach are jazz standards, songs from the North American repertoire and some reinterpretations.
Frisell sums up the special nature of this work: "it's all about the musical relationship we have as a trio, (...) we had been playing for many years, but had never had the opportunity to document and share this special connection".
