It all started simply: in 2003, a group of young people from Miranda do Corvo decided to get together every Monday to play futsal at the local Pavilion, a tradition that they still observe.
In that year, they took part in a tournament organized by the Municipal Council of Miranda do Corvo and registered as Abutres Futsal Club (Vultures Futsal Club).
Their comradeship became contagious and downhill lovers - Abutres Bike Team, lovers of off-road motor sports - Abutres Tinterra and lovers of trail running - Abutres Running Team all joined the club.
The dream became a reality when, in 2009, they created the Abútrica Association and carried out various activities.
The Association received two votes (unanimously) of praise from the Municipality of Miranda do Corvo.
In 2010, the group registered the ABUTRES® brand and its logo, creating the Trilhos dos Abutres race the following year.
Over the years, the number of participants, national and international, has been increasing, with places being hotly contested: by way of example, in 2014, registrations sold out in 15 minutes and in 2015, five minutes were enough to sell out the 1500 places. In 2019, applications were so high that it was necessary to draw lots for those wishing to take part in the UTA-Ultra Trilhos dos Abutres.
In 2019, the Trilhos dos Abutres edition sharing the route with the World Trail Championship event, which takes place in Miranda do Corvo from 6 to 9 June.
Besides organising a total of 1,500 athletes, the organisation expects to receive about 20,000 visitors over the four days of the event.
