Penedo Furado Walkways

Penedo Furado Walkways
nature and leisure

For a better, faster and safer access between the Penedo Furado River Beach and the waterfall area, the Municipality of Vila de Rei built the Penedo Furado Walkways. Spanning approximately 532 metres, the walkways include a bridge at the end of the route and platforms for rest areas, with benches and viewpoints.

The Penedo Furado Walkways are also part of walking trails "Trilho das Bufareiras", "Rota das Conheiras", "Multistage Route of Prata and Ouro" and "Multistage Route of Zêzere". The surrounding landscape also contains places of rare beauty, including a massive rock with a huge tapered opening, found at the highest point, after which the beach is named.

The Penedo Furado Viewpoint was built on this site and it provides a view over the magnificent landscape of pine forest mountains and hills, the Codes stream, the Castelo do Bode Dam Reservoir and houses in the surrounding villages.

Below the viewpoint is the "Bicha Pintada", a fossil that, according to some scholars, is over 480 million years old. Nearby, you will also find the Fragas do Rabadão viewpoint, with a small sanctuary and a via crucis, from where you can enjoy the landscape to the Castelo de Bode reservoir. A new trail starts here, connecting with the from the previous viewpoint, with access to the "Bicha Pintada".
