“Let us listen to what these mountains whisper to us”
Manuel Louzã Henriques, in the Magazine Aldeias do Xisto Magazine - Winter 2008/09
Today, sadly, one of the brightest lights in the cultural life of Serra da Lousã and of the Central Region has been extinguished. Physician, researcher and social and cultural activist, Manuel Louzã Henriques, b. Coentral, Castanheira de Pera, has kept a deep-seated connection with Lousã throughout his life, especially with the Aldeia do Xisto of Candal, where he spent part of his life. He was, in fact, one of the visionaries who anticipated what the Aldeias do Xisto could become, arguing for this area’s values and actively advocating for the improvement of its cultural resources as an added value for the Central Region and for the country. A major figure of national culture has been erased, but his life served was an inspiration to many of those who founded and now work in the Aldeias do Xisto. The wisdom he left behind, through the vast and rich collection of the Dr. Louzã Henriques Museum, is the greatest tribute to a man who dedicated his life to honouring the memory of his fellow countrymen and women.
ADXTUR wishes to express its deepest regret for this loss and conveys its most sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
