Inaugurated in 2001, in Castanheira de Pera, Casa do Tempo [House of Time] is a space created for the social, educational and cultural development of the municipality. It also serves as a Local Tourist Office and Exhibition Space.

The building, designed by architect Paulo Pedroso, consists of two exhibitions galleries separated by the front desk reception area. The name Casa do Tempo ended up being apropos due to the exhibition content of the space, as well as the set of architectural features that reveal impressions associated with the idea of past, present and future.Consequently, inspired by the idea of the ‘past’, the so-called Permanent Exhibition Gallery houses a display that takes visitors on a journey ofthrough the history of Castanheira de Pera.

The incursion through the municipality’s memories of the municipality can be made by perusing a series of objects related to the Textile Industry, or by observing several copies of the local newspaper “O Castanheirense”, since both subjects allow us to learn about local history.On the other hand, and associated with the idea of the "future’, the Temporary Exhibition Gallery presents itself as a space that , month after month, welcomes new playful-pedagogical initiatives. Also showcases works representative of different artists, aesthetic trends and working methods. The constant promotion of painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, decorative arts, and handicraft exhibitions (among others) encourages cultural dissemination and gives the public access to a wide range of events that strengthen their contact with the admirable world of arts and culture.
