In Ferraria de São João there is a century-old cork oak grove that once contained more than 200 cork oaks. A unique and fantastic space for a picnic or an afternoon snooze on summer days. The Residents’ Association has been acquiring cork oaks from Mr. José Vaz (who is almost 100 years old), with the aim of preserving them and maintaining the grove as a public space for everybody’s enjoyment and relaxation. The cork oaks were acquired by the residents of Ferraria de São João, with the aim of preserving a species protected by law, as well as the cultural heritage of the village.
As a way of financing not only the acquisition, but chiefly the maintenance and management of the trees, which involves pruning them, clearing vegetation and improving the area, they decided to launch a cork oak adoption programme.
Benefits for the person adopting:
- Personalise your cork oak with 3 symbols
- Adoption period: 9 years
- Option right on 50% of the cork oak sale value (during this period)
- Enjoyment of the shade of the cork oak
- Offer of monthly membership fees
- Participation in the annual activities of adopters
- Contribution to the management and maintenance of cork oaks
- Adoption certificate
The trees were determined as being small, medium and large, taking into account their size and age, and the adoption amount corresponds to 40, 60 and 80 euros, respectively.
If you are interested, just send an email to associacaofsj@gmail.com and say which type of cork oak you wish to adopt.
