As Janeiro de Baixo is one of the Aldeias do Xisto, the river beach is located in an area with a rich and vast historical and ethnographic heritage, which is best exemplified by the "tronco de ferrar” (horseshoe trunk), the parish house, the ferry and the Mother Church.

It is an idyllic place, as the valleys through which the Zêzere meanders are among the most beautiful and important natural heritage of the Beiras and of Portugal.

The beach has a wide strip of sand and the beautiful river invites bathers to rent the canoes offered by the camp site.

Swimming, picnics, canoeing and a visit to a unique ecological environment, a walk along the Caminho do Xisto are among the attractions available to all those who visit Janeiro de Baixo.

De Norte
Na A1 sair em Coimbra. Siga a N17 (Estrada da Beira) em direcção à Lousã. Na Lousã continue na direcção de Góis, pela EN342, após 15km, na rotunda do Cimo do Alvém (Portela de Góis), cortar à esquerda para a N2 na direcção de Pampilhosa da Serra. Após aprox. 22 Km chega a vila de Pampilhosa da Serra.
Siga pela N112 em direcção a Castelo Branco. Após 10km, corte na direcção da Barragem de Santa Luzia, Fundão pela N344.
Passados 2km na Portela do Armadouro corte à direita para Janeiro de Baixo.

De Sul
Na A1 sair para Abrantes/Castelo Branco (A23). Seguir pela A23 até à saída (Tomar/Coimbra). Seguir pelo IC3 até Avelar. Cortar à direita IC8 sentido Castelo Branco. Sair do IC8 em Pedrógão Grande no sentido Pampilhosa da Serra. Siga pela N343 junto ao Zêzere até à vila da Pampilhosa da Serra.
Siga pela N112 em direcção a Castelo Branco. Após 10km, corte na direcção da Barragem de Santa Luzia, Fundão pela N344. Passados 2km na Portela do Armadouro corte à direita para Janeiro de Baixo.

Janeiro de Cima

Zêzere River

By the Zêzere one shouts “Ahoy there ferry!” to cross the river. In Janeiro de Cima that was how people and trade used to travel from one bank to the other and today you can still take a ride upstream.
