In the scope of accreditation by Geopark Naturtejo of Meseta Meridional, the borough of Oleiros received a visit by two UNESCO experts.
The Coordinator of the Magma Global Geopark Centre, in Norway, Sara Gentilini, and the Coordinator of Hartz Geopark, in Germany, were on a field trip to verify the implementation of Geopark Naturtejo’s development plan application and its contribution to the sustainable development of the surroundings. This evaluation process takes place every 4 years and, in the case of a favourable outcome, allows the revalidation of the trademark.
It should be remembered that this is the third time that the territory has been assessed under this international certification, the first taking place in 2011, then in 2015. As in previous visits, the experts toured some points of interest in Oleiros borough, and assessed the new projects and products that have emerged since the last revalidation. The International Appalachian Trail, the significant increase in the number of tourists and accommodation units in the area, and the promotion of endogenous products were some of the aspects highlighted.
At the end, the evaluators expressed their satisfaction with all the work done, highlighting the good cooperation between the various agents involved.
