Trilhos dos Abutres is returning to Miranda do Corvo between January 26 and 28. Considered one of the most popular portuguese trail races, it will take place in the heart of Serra da Lousã and will bring together nearly 1,600 athletes, and national and international trail running enthusiasts. The 12th edition returns, after a year's break, with renewed energy and a handful of good news.
Athletes who get the much-desired registration will have the opportunity to run in one of the most beautiful and spectacular portuguese routes - going through the emblematic Aldeia do Xisto Gondramaz, several waterfalls, the Observatório Astronómico do Parque Eólico of Vila Nova, as well as the mythical stairs of Senhora da Piedade, which became famous as the World Championships in 2019, with the large crowds to watch the athletes climb its stairs.
Challenging and spectacular races
With three main races plus 2 very special races, the excitement is guaranteed for athletes and trail running enthusiasts:
- Ultra Trail Trilhos dos Abutres: The queen race, with 50 kilometers and 2.500 of positive gradient, scheduled for January 27;
- Trilhos dos Abutres: Running 30 kilometers and with 1.500 meters of positive gradient, on January 28;
- Mini Trilhos dos Abutres: A distance of approximately 21 kilometers and 835 meters of positive gradient, on January 28.
Working for the integration and promotion the future of sport
One of the focuses of organizational action will be to make the "Trilhos Júnior José Godinho" closer to schools, promoting the practice of trail running as an accessible and exciting modality, arousing the interest of young people and encouraging them to explore other sporting opportunities. This project will have more developments in the coming weeks but for now we can announce that it will take place on January 26.
The Inclusive Trail is a race designed for people with different types of disabilities, specially motor, mental, visual and auditory, in a race through the surrounding trails of the center of Miranda do Corvo, to be held on January 26.
The best national and international athletes
Once again, the Associação Abutrica, the entity responsible for the event, foresees the presence of the best national athletes, having already confirmed the presence of some reference athletes from other countries.
"We return with renewed energy, with the will to provide, once again, to all the athletes a top quality race. This year, we will also give our best to provide a different experience to the public who visit us to see the best national athletes compete", says Hugo Cabral, responsible for the organization.
Minimizing the ecological footprint and defending nature
Environmental concerns have been part of the DNA of this race since the first year and Associação Abutrica has reinforced its commitment to a minimal ecological footprint.
The "eco" registration will be maintained, which allow interested participants to purchase only the bib and access to the supplies provided in the race, eliminating merchandising products or non-essential equipment, and allowing a more conscious presence at a lower price.
Opening of pre-registrations and 11th Expotrail
The pre-registration race for "Trilhos dos Abutres" 2024 will start on October 6.
Expotrail will continue to mark his presence at the event. A side event, where participants and visitors will have the opportunity to explore a unique exhibition of running gear and regional products. Located in the finish line, Expotrail brings together 30 exhibitors each year, becoming an increasingly attractive space for all who visit.
It should be noted that the poster of this edition, which will embody the entire image of the event, is an illustration of Miranda do Corvo, with all its ex-libris without forgetting the new hero, the mascot "O ABUTRE".
