The application made by the Municipality of Oleiros, within the scope of its integration in the European Network of Municipalities Friendly to Families (REMAF), was accepted by the Executive Committee of that European body. The decision was based on an analysis of the good practices implemented by the municipality which, in the opinion of that organization, can inspire others to follow suit.
REMAF was created in 2008 by ELFAC- European Confederation of Large Families, formally constituted in 2004, with whom the Observatory of Family-Responsible Municipalities (OAFR) established a protocol.
It is recalled that the Municipality had already been distinguished in 2021 by the OAFR as Autarchy + Family Responsible. At the time, the municipal investment in the construction of an integrated family support policy was highlighted.
"With this recognition, as a result of the work carried out with the population, it is proven that the measures outlined can have a relevant role in combating the depopulation of territories like ours. This is the case, for example, of support for 1st childhood and housing, with the allocation of a sum of 5,000 euros to each young household for the respective purposes", highlighted the mayor, Fernando Jorge.
In the words of the mayor, this integration also serves as "an incentive for the adoption of other measures that we will implement, in an action of proximity to the populations, with a view to social cohesion".
Oleiros thus starts to contribute actively to the construction of a more family-friendly Europe and to be able to use the logo of the European Network. With this adhesion, the municipality is also included in the Network's database, which allows it access to an exclusive set of good practices, as well as the presence in meetings, seminars, workshops and European conventions.
