The awards ceremony for the 6th edition of the Local Authority of the Year - Portugal 2019 took place at the Arouca Convent and recognised good practice in projects set up by local authorities and having an impact on the area, the economy and society, promoting growth, inclusion, and sustainability. It also highlighted the theme of internationalisation in development, seen from the perspective of local authority activity, as well as valuing diverse realities that include cities and low-density territories in the different regions of the country.
At the award ceremony, the Vice-Mayor of Oleiros underlined the pride with which "we write another page of glory for our land" which comes from hard work, dedication, and commitment. Victor Antunes also confessed that "this recognition encourages us to continue with this and other projects".
In October the Bereavement Support Programme won the Good Practices in Psychology Award - Local Administration - 2019, created by the Order of Portuguese Psychologists (OPP) and Lisbon City Council. The project, which began in March 2015, takes a psychologist to the most remote places in the borough, with the aim of providing psychological support to Oleiras citizens who are in the mourning. A pioneer at national level, the Bereavement Support Programme has aroused the interest of other local authorities and is increasingly welcomed by the local population.
