The Mayor of Miranda do Corvo, Miguel Baptista, and the President of Abútrica Association, Tiago Araújo, travel this weekend to Penyagolosa, Castellón de la Plana (Valencia, Spain) to attend the 2018 edition of the Trail World Cup, which is taking place until Sunday (13 May) in the Valencian Community. At the closing ceremony, the organisers will receive the "flag" to hand over in next year's competition, which will take place in Miranda do Corvo.
"This is a very big challenge for the borough", says the Mayor, while recalling "the clear investment made by the municipality to make Miranda do Corvo a trail-running borough of note".
The setting-up of the "Trilho dos Abutres" competition by the Abútrica Association, which has grown in quality each year, and the creation of a Trail Running and Mountain Biking Centre in Vila Nova were highlighted by the mayor. Two investments that, in Miguel Baptista's opinion, were fundamental for the hosting of the race.
"It is with enormous pride (for the association) that we host this event", says Tiago Araújo, our ambition was to hold a world-class event in 2020, the year in which the 10th edition of the Vultures Trail will take place, but as fate would have it, we were chosen to organise this event a year earlier," he said.
The 2019 World Trail Running Championship takes place on 6 June in Miranda do Corvo and is attended by 55 teams.
Organised by the Portuguese Athletics Federation and the Associação Abútrica, in partnership with the Miranda do Corvo Municipal Council.
