Miranda do Corvo Town Council won, for the third consecutive year, the Eco-Municipality award. This recognition results from the fact that the 13 schools of the Miranda do Corvo School Grouping were awarded the Green Eco-School Flag and, at the same time, the Eco-Grouping award.
The awarding of all these distinctions is the result of the work developed by Miranda do Corvo Council to support all initiatives of Environmental Education for Sustainability in all schools.
In addition to these awards, it is worth noting the national victory of the Casais de São Clemente primary school in the Challenge “Collect with Style - Per Capita Collection” in the category “Used Clothes Aren’t Finished Project”. In the same challenge, 3rd place went to Escola EB1 de Lamas, also from Miranda do Corvo.
The awards will be presented at a ceremony to be held on 30 October in Lisbon. This year, and due to the covid-19 pandemic, the event is restricted to representatives of the award-winning local authorities and the award-winning schools will attend the ceremony online.
It should be noted that the Eco-Schools project includes the following establishments: Jardim de Infância de Casais de São Clemente, Jardim de Infância de Espinho, Jardim de Infância de Miranda do Corvo, Jardim de Infância de Vidual, Escola EB1/JI Prof. Dr. Ferrer Correia, Escola Básica de Miranda do Corvo, Escola Básica de Moinhos, Escola Básica de Semide, Escola EB1 Rio de Vide, Escola EB1 Vila Nova, Escola EB1 de Lamas, Escola EB1 de Pereira, and Escola EB 2,3/S José Falcão.
Eco-Schools is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education, operated in Portugal since 1996 by ABAE. It aims to encourage action and recognise quality work developed by schools, within the scope of Environmental Education for Sustainability.
