The Lousã Council was nationally recognised for Good Gender Equality Practice. The "Living in Equality" Award is a biennial initiative, promoted by the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, which celebrates and honours local authorities with practice, both internally and at local level, that promote local and national identity and assimilation.
For the Mayor, "this award highlights the action Lousã took in the integration of the gender perspective in local policies, being one more stimulus for the mission of the Councillor for Equality, the Equality in Local Life Team and the bodies that work with the Council in this area."
Luís Antunes considers that "it is fundamental to broaden and deepen this work given that there is a long way to go in order to address the asymmetries between men and women, to prevent Domestic Violence and provide support to victims and foster a more tolerant society towards the other, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sexual characteristics."
