Founded on 28 March 1988, Lousãmel arose from the need for an institution to support beekeepers.

Managing the Mel da Serra da Lousã PDO, assuring the fulfilment of the production rules, marketing and distributing the honey, providing technical assistance, collaborating with beekeeping training entities or promoting beekeeping amongst the younger generation are some of the objectives that, year after year, Lousãmel strives for.
