The local authorities of Miranda do Corvo and Arganil are two of the 4 nominees to be recognised for "Central Local Authority of the Year with less than 20 thousand inhabitants" at the Local Authority of the Year (MDA) Portugal 2016 Gala

Of a total of 93 applications submitted, Miranda do Corvo and Arganil are two of the four finalists out of 19 candidates in their category, and are now competing with Batalha and Penacova for the award of “Central Local Authority of the Year with less than 20 thousand inhabitants”.

The application requirement for the Local Authority of the Year Portugal Awards is the presentation of a project that has produced a significant positive impact and was implemented after 1 January 2015, with Miranda do Corvo Borough Council choosing the Training Centre for Trail Running and Mountain Biking and Arganil choosing the project Arganil - Rally Capital.

The winners of each category will be announced on 3 June at the 2016 Portugal Municipality of the Year Gala, which will be held in Sagres, in the borough of Vila do Bispo

The “2016 Portugal Local Authority of the Year" Awards, now in its 3rd year, are the responsibility of UM-Cidades, a University of Minho inititiative. Of national scope and developed in close collaboration with Portuguese municipalities, it aims to recognise and reward good practice in local authority projects that have remarkable impact on the land, in the economy, and in society, and which promote growth, inclusion, and sustainability.
